M.P.E.C. 2023-F148 Issued 2023 March 27, 06:09 UT The Minor Planet Electronic Circulars contain information on unusual minor planets, routine data on comets and natural satellites, and occasional editorial announcements. They are published on behalf of Division F of the International Astronomical Union by the Minor Planet Center, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network MPC@CFA.HARVARD.EDU URL https://www.minorplanetcenter.net/ ISSN 1523-6714 COMET C/1971 M1 (Edwards) M. Meyer reports measurements made by him, along with G. W. Kronk, of scans of photographic plates detecting comet X/1971 M1. On the 1971 July 25 images, the comet displayed a 5' tail toward PA 150 degs. This comet was discovered by L. R. Edwards and reported on IAUC 2432. The MPC is changing the prefix of this comet's designation from X/ to C/, and the WGSBN has assigned it the name Edwards.
