From Russian and English words meaning "connection", Svyaztie honors
the enduring astronomical collaborations and friendships that transcend
national boundaries and political philosophies. The name also acknowledges
the exchange of neckwear by the codiscoverers on their first meeting at IAU
Symposium No. 45 in 1970.
